Achievementsof the DCA
- Thanks to us, and the help of our councillors. Danescourt is within the catchment of Radyr Comprehensive School, a consistently high-achieving school.
- Following a long campaign (involving meetings with various departments of the City Council, Councillors of Radyr and Llandaff), a well-lit tarmac path was eventually constructed across the school field, saving many parents the need to use their washing machines every night!
- In 2002 officers from the then Residents' Association held meetings with the Managing Director of Cardiff Bus and others concerning proposed timetables. If implemented, Danescourt would have been left with no available public transport to Radyr or Fairwater. Our strong challenge to the proposals restored the service to the elderly people and young mothers who depended on it.
- Direct negotiations with the agent for the Earl of Plymouth estates (former land owners of the land on which Danescourt now stands) means that there is now street lighting from the shops to Cadoc Place.
- The Residents' Association appeared as witnesses in court and successfully opposed the drinks licence application made by Texaco and their garage on the roundabout.
- We campaigned strongly to oppose mobile phone masts being erected in the area. Each and every application has been withdrawn, thanks to our concerns.
- We attended and spoke at a planning meeting to oppose a planning application for a bungalow to be constructed on an existing children's playground. The application was withdrawn.
We aren't just about opposing things either! In fact. we want to make Danescourt a more enjoyable place to live. Here is some of what we do to enhance our community:
- We are pushing hard for the building of a Community Centre, which will benefit the area immensely.
- A bi-monthly News magazine, providing an important link to the community. It is delivered free of charge to every home on the estate, and includes all local doctor surgeries and libraries. News and events are covered, and also provides low-cost advertisement opportunities for local business.
